Substation Engineer I (Junior Engineer)
Location: Lakeville, Minnesota (Remote/Hybrid)
Job Type: Full-Time
Salary & Benefits: Salary of $60,000 to $85,000 annually. Insurance benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life. Additional benefits include a 401(k) Plan with company contributions, paid time off, and profit sharing.

Position Overview:
CEG is seeking a motivated Substation Engineer I (Junior Engineer) to join our Renewable Power Generation Plants engineering team. In this role, you will work directly with industry experts to design, configure, and test critical substation systems for large-scale renewable energy projects. This position provides direct exposure and growth in both Physical Design and Protection & Controls (P&C) engineering. Not all requirements need to be met to apply, we encourage parties to apply that have some of the skills needed.
What You’ll Do:
Develop substation system design packages
Develop physical layouts and structural plans, including substation equipment, fencing, access roads, grounding grid, trenching routes, and conduit & cable routes
Develop wiring diagrams and schematics
Provide engineering markups of AC/DC schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and other drawings for the drafting team to execute
Review drawings provided by drafting team to ensure all engineering markups were accurately incorporated
Assist and/or develop relay settings
Research and provide feedback on topics assigned by project engineers
Perform mathematical checks on voltage drop and battery sizing equations
Assist and/or lead project planning, scheduling, and coordination for projects of all size
Work with other project team members to produce project deliverables as required
Other job-related responsibilities as assigned
Travel to client sites and offices occasionally required, up to 20% of time
What You’ll Need:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related engineering field
Desire to acquire Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or already possess
Desire to acquire Professional Engineer certification
0 – 3 years of exposure to utility power systems through specialized coursework, internships, or entry-level utility engineering track
Basic familiarity with relay manufacturer configuration tools (such as SEL AcSELerator Quickset)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
Effective written and oral communication skills
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Bonus If You Bring:
Experience with utility-scale renewable energy systems
Experience with substation related software like ETAP, SKM, etc.
Solid understanding of three-phase power systems, symmetrical components, and standard IEEE/ANSI device
numbers
Experience with NetSuite ERP
