SCADA Engineer I (Junior Engineer)

Location: Lakeville, Minnesota (Remote/Hybrid)

Job Type: Full-Time

Salary & Benefits: Salary of $60,000 to $85,000 annually. Insurance benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life. Additional benefits include a 401(k) Plan with company contributions, paid time off, and profit sharing.

Position Overview:

CEG is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of SCADA Engineer working with Automation and Integration of Plant SCADA and PPC systems into Renewable Power Generation Plants. The SCADA Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, installing, and testing automation systems that bring together multiple sub-systems to meet the operational and regulatory needs of the owner. The SCADA Engineer will be able to develop and implement logic for complex custom applications.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop SCADA point lists, remote terminal unit (RTU) programs, human-machine interfaces (HMIs), meter and relay settings, and general calculations

  • Program, install, troubleshoot, test, and commission Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs), & Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) for renewable and power utility clients

  • Develop complete design packages for site network and communication architectures compliant with client and regulatory requirements

  • Assist Project Engineers with project schedules and provide regular, timely progress reports and status updates

  • Foster and maintain positive client relationships, be responsive both internally and externally - very frequent client interaction

  • Support projects timelines to keep project schedule on track

  • Support strategic company and department initiatives

  • Travel to client sites and offices occasionally required, up to 25% of time

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, or related field

  • 0 – 3 years of experience designing and leading SCADA projects

  • Willingness to learn about topics in the “Bonus if You Bring” section

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in relevant coursework or projects in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science/Engineering

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word

  • Effective written and oral communication skills

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Bonus If You Bring:

  • Experience with utility-scale renewable energy systems

  • Knowledge of various SCADA concepts, such as but not limited to: Networking (VLANs, routing tables, firewall rules, etc.), PPCs (PID controllers, inverter communications and control, IEC 61131-3), Project Management (ability to lead a Plant SCADA and PPC project), HMIs (what data is important/relevant to the operators, design concepts), Troubleshooting (ability to chase down a problem, given minimal information, and propose a solution), Systems and Server Administration (ability to commission a server upon startup for a project, perform replacements or hot swaps), etc.

  • Knowledge of industry standard protocols like DNP3, Modbus, OPC UA, etc.

  • Data Concentrator experience: SEL-RTAC, Novatech OrionLX+, and others as needed – ability to create complex files and implement custom logic

  • HMI configuration experience, preferably Ignition

  • Networking and Device configuration experience, including knowledge of the following manufacturers: SEL, Hirschmann, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Dell, and Cisco

  • Ability to successfully use troubleshooting tools, such as Putty, Wireshark, and others as needed

  • Cybersecurity and NERC experience

  • Systems and Server experience

  • Experience with NetSuite ERP
